I worked for over 20 years in full-time education as an Art teacher in Secondary schools, before developing a career as a painter in 2001. During this time I taught, in addition to Drawing and Painting, Graphic Design, Ceramics, Photography and Art History.
I was also actively involved in various stage productions. These entailed designing sets and props in collaboration with technical departments, prior to final painting.
Throughout my teaching career I was frequently involved in Outdoor Education, where in addition to the usual activities I encouraged students to consider the "local environment" as a source of inspiration for art. Activities included building constructions from found natural materials and using plaster casting to record features of interest. Today I am running evening classes, one of which is an adult art class housed in the local community centre. I also take part in "open days" and community projects.
During this time I have completed many commissions in pastel, watercolour, acrylic and oil. Subjects have included portraits, figure compositions, cityscapes and landscapes. Currently I have examples of original work as well as limited edition prints held in various galleries in Edinburgh.
